Simplifying the Holidays

Happy holidays to anyone celebrating today.

Despite the cheerleading Gap commercials and never-ending messages telling me that I really should be out shopping, I am finding so much satisfaction in finishing up my hand-made holiday cards (which really need to get in the mail), and designing gifts for the people who matter most to me.

Scenes from a Mall, the weekly This American Life that aired on December 26, 2008, represents my thoughts on the holiday season to a T. Malls are the last thing that should matter this time of year.

And I can’t say I know much about what God wants us to do, surely having my boyfriend work at 5:00 a.m. on Black Friday to kick off a month of over-indulgence wasn’t in her original plan.

Can’t wait to get my holiday card!

Will be on Elmwood tomorrow am for haircut and maybe a little shopping – very un-mallish.
